I don't always complain about my kiddos.....sometimes I get crafty with them, then complain! Fun with Washi Craft Tape, Woo Hoo!

So there is this stuff all over Pinterest called 'Washi Tape' Washi Who? What? Huh?

Anyway, we are getting ready to re-do K's room (K, being our six year old) I have always HATED!!! DESPISED!! DETESTED!!!! The chalky, weird, gray blue, kinda baby blue, kinda NOT, kinda UGLY paint that is on her walls. Why did I pick it out? I didn't!! It was free...leftover from one of my husband's jobs where the homeowners decided they did not like the color.
HINT - If  homeowner did not like it, why would I like it for our baby girls mermaid themed room?
Aqua Blue?
YES
Sea Foam Green?
YES
Tiffany Blue?
Yes

Muted down bleeeeccchhhh blue
NO!!

Like I said, after six years we are going to spruce up the room.
Daughter and I picked out the paint
PINK
and husband purchased it.

So one night I was sitting on the edge of her bed staring at her ceiling fan thinking of ways to brighten it up, then I remembered this Washi Tape stuff I keep seeing online.
Went to craft store, picked it up, and without further ado (or complaining) here is my decorated white fan.

Super Simple! Not to mention easily removable, should you change your mind on placement
Washi Crafting Tape, the possibilities are endless.
Actually the possibilities have to end somewhere, huh?
I mean, I don't want to start seeing Washi striped toilet seats, trash cans, cigarette lighters, crack pipes........
It almost looks like glued on fabric when you stare at it.

I asked my husband if he could take the blades off for me.
He said "yes"
I waited
He didn't come upstairs in a timely manner, so......
I grabbed the ladder, electric drill and my inner 'Women Can Do Anything' attitude and set forth.

All Done!! Pretty Cool if I do say so myself.
Now time for one of these

Fairy Gardens,Frolics, and No More Farts (For Now)

If you are here from Pinterest, Welcome! I am a humor blog writer, mostly writing about the shenanigans that go on in my household, but sometimes I show my crafty side. Hence the Fairy Garden.
Stick around! You came for a Fairy Garden, but you can leave with a smile.

I wrote a post about all of the fart talk that goes on in my household. It is still going on, but I am not going to write about it (not for today at least)

Fridays are my day off, time I spend with my five year old when she is not in Pre-School, I am not at work, the older ones are in school, and M is usually at work.  I wanted to to something fun with her! Creative, Crafty, Neat, Girly, all of the above!

Now I do not, nor will I ever have a Green Thumb! It is just not in me. I have tried, believe me I have tried. In my old house, I would get little gardening jolts, run off to Home Depot, and come home with a flat of ground cover, flowers, or green stuff with pretty colors.

I have absolutely ZERO knowledge or understanding of soil, seasons, or seeds!

My house now, thanks to my husband, has a more tropical landscape going on. Palm Trees, Palm Trees, Palm Trees.  He has the Green Thumb. We compost our trash, he knows all of the scientific names for the trees, and the more everything grows, the more we feel as though we are surrounded by a lush, green paradise.

So back to creative time with Ki! While I do love our Hawaiian themed yard, I do love the whole cottage, flower look as well. But I know our garden will never look like that. After a few pictures I saw online, and some inspiration from my cousins adorable house in San Diego, where she created a little Unicorn Garden in one of the tree stumps in her yard, I thought of a plan.

~A Fairy Garden~

My husband told me I could use some of his precious compost, his precious wine barrel (that was set to hold a new palm tree probably) , and his precious advice!
I will use the compost
I will use the wine barrel
Advice??
I can do this on my own buddy, thank you very much!!

So I waited for him to leave, went to Lowe's, went to the craft store, picked through some supplies we are already had on hand. Pulled out my IMAGINATION, and we were ready.

I used a dolly, I shoveled, I scooped out compost, I was J.R. the Gardener!
With my little sidekick, Ki!
It was calming, therapeutic, and honestly just plain FUN!

Here is what we created
-The Beginning-
I shoveled all that dirt
I deserve a Golden Shovel Award

KEEP SCROLLING DOWN

Work in Progress.

Fairy Garden Final Product

The blue rocks were left over from an old fish tank.
The little bridge was from one of her Littlest Pet Shop toys.
The sitting fairy, and blue mushroom came with houseplants my hubby picked up at a garage sale.
The sun had broken off of a sensor nightlight we had in her room.
The mini tiles leading up to the bridge, were from a tile sample kit. My husband picked that up for me at a garage sale, because I had wanted to try mosaic tiling.
The silver star wands were left over from a princess party for my daughter.
The house, moss, white gate and tiny wheelbarrow next to house were from the craft store. Ki painted it all by herself.
The little white birds by the mushroom. Those I hot glued to wire, wrapped the wire around a popsicle stick, stuck it in the soil. then bent the wires to make them look like they were flying.
Plants from Lowe's Home Improvement store.
Blue glass candle holder had a broken base. I turned it upside down, then put another broken candle base on top of it.I will add a citronella candle there at night.
Baby tears ground cover back near fairy house. I just transplanted some of that from our front yard.
IMAGINATION supplied by Ki and myself!

Whimsical, Fun & Easy.
We check on it everyday, and add new things to it.
I just cleaned her room last week, and found a mini little chair, and an old teeny, tiny Tinkerbell figurine from an ornament. Those have been added as well.
Ki sprinkles glitter over it every once in a while.

In the midst of the Palm Trees, Fish Pond, and Plumerias we have our own little dreamy village.
A good book, a lounge chair, a wading pool and some sunshine. My backyard can take me away from all of the stress that my life can sometimes bring.

*not to be cheesy, or lovey dovey. But I want to say 'thank you' to my husband. Thank you for creating the peaceful, tropical oasis that I have grown to love. It is a work in progress, but the work has been done solely by you! - well, and by C, on chore days!
Thank you also for letting our Fairies have a little corner of the Palm Tree Village.
Also, aren't you proud of me?
Nothing has died in the Fairy Garden..... YET.... Still Green... Still Living!

Pinterest..... It can be fun (or make you feel like a loser)

So I logged on to Pinterest (or asked to be 'invited', excuse me) a few months ago. I did not get it at first. I thought it was a craft website (I can be a bit crafty when I have the time), but only pictures of pretty models, and interior design came up. Then I dove in a little more, realized I had to 'follow' people, still didn't totally get the point though. Then I figured out how to look stuff up that pertained to me. DIY and Crafts, Kids, etc. There is a TON of great ideas on this site (still don't 100% get it though. I mean am I to 'like' a pin, or am I to 're-pin' it. Making sure to give credit to the original re-pinner??) When I go on it I am more just like a kid in a toy store, ooohhing and ahhhing. Every once in a while, I yell to my husband
"M, come look at this. I finally know what to do with all of the Wine Corks we have been saving."

"Mmm Hmmm." - he is about as interested as I am in hearing about whatever websites he thinks are cool.

The only thing about Pinterest is this. It makes me feel inadequate as a crafter, sewer, do-it-yourselfer. It makes me feel jealous, upset, and envious that I don't have a craft room in my house, decorated and organized like it jumped out from a Martha Stewart magazine. It makes me feel anxious, looking at all of the pictures and really, truly thinking to myself
'I can make these things. I could TOTALLY do that' but when would I have the time? I feel stressed and excited all at once, I can't handle looking at all these cool pictures, uggghhh!!
There are a gazillion crafts using the paint chips from home improvement stores. I have already asked my husband to start smuggling some each time he steps foot in one. Pretty soon, they are going to start having security cameras set up in the paint aisles. Looking for any suspicious 'crafty mom' types.
"Mam, are you taking those samples to go home and match to an actual room, that you are going to actually paint?"
"Yes"
"You sure?? Or are you going to be constructing a hanging lantern, valentines garland, bookmark, name cards, or homemade gift tags?"  SECURITY we got a crafter, paint aisle!!

Yeah, I will send my husband. He will get away with it, he certainly does not have the look of a crafter.

Since I have no craft room, (hell I don't even have a craft desk, or a craft closet.) I have to use the kitchen table, and a cardboard box that fits everything from broken tile pieces ( I really have been meaning to try out Mosaic Tiling), to pipe cleaners, to Scrapbook supplies (another thing I keep trying to get into, but after one page is done, I go on a two year hiatus). I may do the Valentine Garland. Looks easy and fun.

But.................... The one thing that was easy, because you don't really need tons of supplies, and between myself and my daughters, we are pretty well stocked, was the fading, glittery, colorful, french manicure. I don't need a Martha Stewart craft room to do this. I have everything I need in a basket under my bathroom sink.
Close up pictures of nails are ALL OVER Pinterest. So I chose the one that looked the easiest, and tried it. I love, love, love painting my toes, but my fingernails are another story. I am too impatient to let them dry, they always chip, and I always mess up. But this was easy. You don't have to be perfect in applying the tip, because the glitter goes over it and covers up any imperfections. Easy, Cute, Love it.
See, when I am not writing about PMS, getting frustrated at my kids or husband, or hoping our cat doesn't get eaten by coyotes, or wondering what my (almost) 18 year old son is going to do with his life, and all of the other annoying things about being a woman/mom/wife, I am sitting on my bedroom floor painting nails with my girls..... until they annoy me. Kidding! My daughters had decided to try out a newspaper look. Where you dip your finger in alcohol (not rum, or vodka. That is for me! RUBBING alcohol for the nails. RUM for mom). Then you press a piece of newspaper onto your nail. Kinda like when we were kids and you would press your silly putty onto the comics, and then the picture would appear on the putty. Then the girls saw how cool my nails turned out, compared to how crappy theirs turned out, and they begged me to "please do ours when you are done"
I said "sure, just let me finish" with a big, nice mommy grin. Well a few minutes later, I was over it. That is me, I get all gung ho on things, but can be totally done after fifteen minutes, laziness, and exhaustion setting in.
So I stood up, said "sorry guys, I'm gonna pour myself a cider (alcohol), and watch t.v."
Fun Mom one minute... Tired Mom  the next...
That is how I roll........

Here is the final outcome, I am pretty proud of myself. (must be, since I took pictures, huh?) No pictures of the girls nails, theirs sucked remember!
